Donut Run with Auntie Sparks by Sarah Sparks

My Grandmother's Birthday is tomorrow, so Auntie Sparks thought it would be a wonderful idea to drag me out to East Boston at 7:30am to grab a dozen "birthday" donuts from Betty Ann Food Shop. We got an assortment of Crullers, Lemon and Jelly Filled Donuts.

"I think the donuts were phenomenal a few years ago, and now just a B-," Auntie Sparks stated out loud. (What is with my family and a grading system?)

I, personally, thought it wasn't anything special to write home about. They were doughy and covered with sugar. Not sure how they fry their donuts or how often they change their cooking oil, but my tongue was not pleased when left with a filmy layer of something mysterious.
