As previously mentioned, my fiddle player's parents went shopping yesterday specifically with us in mind. This morning we received the "fruits" of that with a huge breakfast: scrambled eggs, regular and turkey bacon, fruit salad including clementine, grapefruit and pineapple chunks, hash brown potatoes (the stand out of the meal, well spiced although a little mushy for my preference), waffles, whole wheat toast, juice, and coffee.
After an easy two hour drive down to Baltimore (along the way i had some sour cream and onion potato crisps and some beef jerky, procured from a 7-11 south of Philly), we arrived at our friend Mick’s house to spend the night on our way down to Asheville, NC. When we arrived our host directed us to a little Indian grocery store just a block away, informing us that they had meals ready-to-eat for like $2 a pop, so we headed over just before closing time and I stocked up on 6 of the meal bags, plus a sack of ten loaves of spicy onion na’an. Once back at the house, we set a big pot of water boiling, popped in a couple of bags to heat them, and now I am enjoying a deep bowl of Kadhi Pakora. According to www.honestcooking.com (reference link http://honestcooking.com/2011/09/12/kadhi-pakora/), “Kadhi is a spiced soup that you make by thinning out yogurt with water and cooking it with chickpea flour.” This particular Kadhi also has chickpea dumplings and chili peppers. The na’an and a Natty Bo (local cheap beer - actually called National Bohemian) round the meal out nicely.
