Time to make you hungry

There is a fakeness to professional food photography that disgusts me.  Most professional food photography is ornately staged.  Chefs fuss over plating much more than they normally do, to make food "look pretty".  Professional food photographers rarely use natural lighting.   Dishes are sometimes shot well after they are plated.  Once the pictures are finally shot, the dish is no longer fresh and vibrant looking.  Food has simple, natural beauty, and it is best captured with simple, natural photography.  It needs to be shot when it needs to be eaten, right after it has been plated, when it's still hot and ready to be devoured.

I like showing off my fiance Lily's food photography.  Lily took the following pictures during dinner service at Primo in Rockland, ME.  These dishes were shot at the chef's pass, just before they were expedited to the dining room for customers' enjoyment.
