Of the many dishes we ordered and sampled, the standout for me lay in three simple dishes, so here's the rap on THE meal to order if you roll through Salvatore's on the Waterfront.
Starters: Mussels Napolitano
The Prince Edward Island
mussels are sauteed in extra virgin olive oil, garlic and pepperocini,
giving just the right amount of spice to accent the fresh tomato base.
The only word I can use to describe these mussels is succulent, both
filling and refreshing.
Salad: Romano
The Romano salad was
deceptively simple, just lettuce, Caesar dressing and fresh
grated Parmesan cheese. Again the quality of the ingredients stood out,
and this was a theme throughout the meal. Subtle flavors coming from the
ingredients, rather than an overt use of seasoning.
Main Course: Filetto Al Bosco
The entree was Filetto Al
Bosco. We were served a grilled Brandt all natural filet, topped with a
wild mushroom ragu. This was plated alongside grilled asparagus and
truffle risotto. I have never in my life tasted a more amazing piece of
meat. Not once. Ever. The mid-rare steak arrived cooked to perfection,
lightly seasoned and purple in the middle. The asparagus was crunchy
with a delicate smokey flavor, and the risotto was filling.
As a smoker, I expect and appreciate bolder flavors, in this case it was a bit of a disappointment to know that I was missing some of the subtleties of the cuisine. Overall, it was an amazing meal, the staff was helpful without being obtrusive, the dishes came out piping hot all in all a great experience. Without a doubt I would go back to Salvatore's, and there you have it, the meal I would order when I do.
