Great Zinfandel From One Of The Original California Wineries

Great Zinfandel From One Of The Original California Wineries

For many years now, Ridge Vineyards has been making world class zinfandel, setting the standard by which all other zinfandels are judged. I recently had the pleasure of meeting Ridge winemaker Eric Baugher at a very intimate luncheon for people in the trade. Over the course of the luncheon, we were presented with four different wines and the real standout for me was the 2009 Ponzo Zinfandel. This is not your typical jammy, high alcohol “fruit bomb” that so many producers put out, but this is zinfandel with real balance and structure, which benefited greatly from some time in the glass. Ridge has been sourcing fruit from the Ponzo vineyard, located in the Russian River Valley, since 1999.  I was offered a one-time-only reduced price, so I scooped up a few cases. This also means that the quantity is limited.

2009 Ridge Ponzo Zinfandel Color: dark garnet; Aroma: cocoa, black fruits, pipe tobacco and peppermint; Mouth: full and smooth, light acidity, black berries and black pepper with a long balanced finish of cocoa and smooth tannins  Very Good - Excellent

$32.99/bottle
